Designed to be affordable and very easy to use.
Own this entire system for under 50 dollars.
The BookStore library automation system uses
a SQL database.
Engineered to run with both MySQL Server and
Microsoft SQL Server/MSDE database servers.

(If you try it feel free to let me know about any issues.)
(I tested this with Chinese, Russian, Arabic and it will most likely work with any language windows supports)
(The program will show English menu dialog, but database results are in the desired language.)

What can you do with the BookStore Library System?
o Manage MARC records
Import – Export MARC files and MARC tag files
Built in Marc editor allows you to add and remove MARC fields,
search and replace, repair, get statistics on field counts, etc…
Customizable template design for freehand manual Marc cataloging
Unlimited numbers of Marc field tags are allowed in the editor
Marc Heading viewer displays entire Marc record with customizable
headings associated with each tag.
z39.50 Web client allows easy importation of Marc data. You can log
into a large number of databases at the LOC to retrieve Marc data.
Display Marc results by both Marc headings and tag numbers.
3 level keyword searching with and, or not. Results highlighted in blue.
Print out barcodes upon MARC record import.
Specify local data tag options for call number, etc…
o Searching the catalog
3 level keyword search using any combination of and, or, not
Query any combination of title, author, summary, subject and
call number type
Search on individual fields
Monitor queries on the item catalog and patron database
BookStore stores all searches for faster search results. Queries
against the database are compared to stored searches and unless
the database has been changed, the original search will be returned.
Marc fields, headings and patrons can be searched by keyword or
individual fields.
o Set orientation to either LOC or Dewey call numbers
o Dewey subclassification searching
A nice way of viewing data by Dewey subclassification, users can
view all Dewey holdings and search on all classes and subclasses.
Dewey classes are listed by either your current holdings or a
comprehensive list of all Dewey classes can be chosen.
o LOC subclassification topic searching
A nice way of viewing data by LOC subclassification topics, users can
view all LOC holdings and search on all classes and subclasses.
LOC classes are listed by either your current holdings or a
comprehensive list of all LOC classes can be chosen.
A custom LOC topic search list can also be created. This way you can
input your own customized class, subclass and topic names.
The files:
LOCGeneralcustom.ini
LOCsubclassCustom.ini
LOCMasterCustom.ini
are examples and can be edited to show custom topic names for class and
subclass
The files:
LOCGeneral.ini
LOCsubclass.ini
LOCMaster.ini
contain the entire LOC class and subclass listings
LOCMaster.ini follows the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS CLASSIFICATION
OUTLINE and contains the entire LOC topic classification. You can view
it here: LOC Classification
o Hyperlinks are active
Simply type in a hyperlink or import a marc file with hyperlinks
and the program will recognize it. Hyperlinks can be present anywhere
in the Marc file. On the 'Library Display' page, only the title, author,
bibliography, series, local data, note, summary and catalog card fields
show active links. For example, if the marc data has a hyperlink
in the author field '=100', then the hyperlink will show up in the
author field of the 'Library Display' page, etc.... '=856' (electronic access)
field tags will show in the notes section of the 'Library Display' page.
'856' field tags in the 'Marc Heading' page are shown under
the Electronic Access heading on that page.
'Marc Headings' and 'Marc Fields' pages will display active hyperlinks
present anywhere in the marc data.
Supported hyperlink formats are:
www.

o Checkout
Use patron names or barcodes.
Checkout items by internal barcode, external barcode or accession
numbers. Keep track of overdue items by patron name or patron
barcode. Establish daily fines for overdue items. Establish individual
patron limits which can be overridden at checkout time. Change
checkout days globally by call number type. Individual customizations
will not be overridden unless so desired. Circulation snapshots by call
number type track library usage, results are stored automatically daily
and available for years.
o Create as many different databases as you desire
o Security
BookStore maintains separate user names and passwords.
3 levels of usage are available
Administrators
Power Users
General Users
20 selectable options for every level of user allow easy control
of access to BookStore functions.
Options such as printing, Marc editing, checkout, returns,
overdue items, databases, global settings and more are easily
customized for every user of the system.
To gain access
First time use of BookStore creates an administrator login
user id New
password New
(If someone deletes all administrators, this login will be recreated.)
You can also force users to login to database security
or allow all users access to the database
o Access databases over both intranets and the internet
BookStore allows users to open and create databases, manipulate data,
search and checkout items etc… over networks. Simply enter the host
name or IP address of the machine where the targeted database server
engine is running to gain access to the database server. Of course the
targeted database server must allow access to the database by the user
with the use of a database user id and password.
o Speed and Capacity
Quite fast, stored searches are almost instantaneous, new searches
against a database containing many tens of thousands of records will
only take a couple of seconds. Ultimately of course speed is dependent
on the capability of your network server. Most of the ‘work’ is performed
on the database server. Search results are stored in temporary tables in the
database and returned to the user for viewing record by record so network
traffic is small.
o Customize colors and fonts
Load background pictures on certain forms for eye pleasing effects.
Change font sizes and colors on certain data display forms for improved
legibility.
What you will need to run BookStore Library Automation System:

§ SQL Server/MSDE
Note: If you have an Office 2000 Cdrom, you already have MSDE available to you for your use.
§ Microsoft MDAC version 2.7 or better in Windows XP or downloadable from Microsoft.
§ BookStore Library system
(a fully functional demo limited to 2000 records)
§ Users running Win95 or Win98 may also need DCOM98
