Message Pattern Extractor

  MPX is a configurable pattern identification and manipulation utility for messages and files. It allows the user to completely define a state machine: transition graphs (nodes and links), sets, patterns, and actions to perform. It can accept input from stored emails (via MAPI) and/or files. It can output to a DBMS (via ODBC) and/or files. It can be configured to parse emails (headers and text bodies) or perform transformations on files.MPX can perform a wide variety of tasks because its design recognizes that many transformation tasks (parsing/extraction/conversion/searches etc.) involve the same basic repetitive process:

  • recognition of a pattern in the input
  • transition to another "state" based on recognition of the next pattern in the input.Internally, MPX is very general and abstract. The user defines the details of the transformation task, with the result that MPX is both flexible and challenging.MPX also features:
  • capabilities (enabling parsing of nested HTML/XML tags, comments, etc.)
  • -string (Unicode) input / output capability
  • interface providing access to database schema and allowing generation/execution of SQL statements from the input
  • -defined function interface allowing execution of custom DLL codeSample email parsing tasks:
  • of any type of data (text, numeric, date, currency, URL, email address, etc.) from the header fields or the text body, and loading of the extracted data in database tables
  • of emails containing certain text, or text strings "near" each other
  • of emails from selected senders, to selected recipients, etc.Sample file transformation tasks:
  • generation (from RTF source, for example)
  • generation
  • /C++ code generation
  • generation / execution
  • of function headers from C source
  • search / search and replace
  • counting, byte swapping and other trivial tasks
